Laurent Rivard scored 17 points as Harvard defeated Cornell, 65-56, in its regular-season finale Saturday night at Lavietes Pavilion. With Princeton losing at Brown, the Crimson clinched the outright Ivy League title and a return date in the NCAA tournament.
Siyani Chambers had 16 points and five assists for Harvard (19-9, 5-9), and teammate Wesley Saunders scored 14 points.
Rivard tied the school’s single-season record for 3-pointers when he hit his 74th in the second half, giving Harvard a 52-38 cushion with about nine minutes remaining. Cornell made a late run and got within five, but Rivard and Chambers combined to go 6-of-8 from the line in the final 46 seconds.
Rivard finished at 4-of-8 from behind the arc, while the Crimson as a team shot an impressive 9-of-15 on treys.
Miles Asafo-Adjei scored 15 points for Cornell (13-18, 5-9).
