Joe Rahon scored a team-high 15 points, including a 3-pointer while being fouled with 8.2 seconds left that gave Boston College a 53-52 victory over Virginia on Sunday afternoon at Conte Forum.

Rahon buried the game-winner from the left wing off a pass from Patrick Heckmann, capping a game-ending 12-3 BC run. He missed the accompanying free throw.

Virginia, which had led 49-41 with 4:27 remaining, did not get off a shot on its ensuing possession, as Jontel Evans stepped on the baseline with 0.4 seconds left while being pressured by Heckmann. The Cavaliers then stole BC’s long inbounds pass and Mitchell hit a halfcourt shot, but it was after the buzzer.

Olivier Hanlan scored 13 points for BC (13-16, 5-11 ACC), while Ryan Anderson contributed eight points and nine rebounds.

Akil Mitchell had 16 points and eight rebounds for Virginia (20-9, 10-6), which was coming off a victory over third-ranked Duke on Thursday.

BC returns to action on Tuesday with a game at Clemson.
