Freshman David Walker swished a baseline 14-foot jumper with 2.4 seconds remaining to give Northeastern a 66-64 victory over James Madison on Wednesday night at Matthews Arena, clinching at least a tie for the Colonial Athletic Association title.

James Madison’s A.J. Davis had tied the game by hitting a 3-pointer with 19 seconds left. The Huskies then ran the clock down before Jonathan Lee drove along the right baseline to a spot under the basket, and he found a backpedaling Lee wide open on the left side. The 6-foot-6 freshman did not hesitate, swishing the game-winner.

On JMU’s final possession, Andre Nation caught an airballed 3-point shot and laid it in, but it was just after the buzzer.

Quincy Ford had team highs of 14 points and seven rebounds for Northeastern (18-10, 13-3), which had not won the CAA since joining in 2005, and had not won a conference championship since 1993 (North Atlantic Conference co-champion). Reggie Spencer added 13 points, and Walker finished with 11.

A.J. Davis scored 21 points for James Madison (16-13, 10-6), which entered the game tied for second place with Towson.

NU has a two-game lead on Towson with two games to play — at Georgia State next Wednesday and home vs. Old Dominion on March 2.
