Harvard turns away Princeton for top spot in Ivy; UMass falls to Temple

Kenyatta Smith had 14 points and six blocked shots Saturday night to lead Harvard to a 69-57 victory over visiting Princeton in a battle between the top teams in the Ivy League.
Five players scored in double figures for the Crimson (15-7, 7-1 Ivy), including Steve Moundou-Missi (14 points), Lauren Rivard (12), Siyani Chambers (11) and Wesley Saunders.
Ian Hummer had 18 points for Princeton (12-9, 5-2).
The Crimson led 32-28 at the half. Rivard hit a turnaround 3-pointer at the buzzer after his initial shot was blocked and the ball was batted around and back to him. Harvard built up the lead to as much as 14 in the second half behind its balanced offensive attack and strong defense. Princeton, which shot 52.4 percent in the first half, hit just 31.0 percent in the second 20 minutes.
The Crimson visit Brown and Yale next weekend.
• In Amherst, Khalif Wyatt scored 17 of his 24 points in the second half as Temple edged UMass, 83-82.
Freddie Riley scored 17 points for the Minutemen (16-8, 8-5 Atlantic 10). His 3-pointer with 1:08 remaining drew UMass within a point but also marked the last scoring of the night. Teammate Chaz Williams contributed 16 points and 13 assists.
The game featured 16 lead changes and 10 ties. It was the fifth straight one-point game for Temple (17-8, 6-5).
