|Danny Hurley, Al Skinner reportedly candidates for URI opening||03.15.12 at 9:46 am ET|
URI, which fired Jim Baron last week after a 7-24 season, reportedly is making a run at second-year Wagner coach Danny Hurley. Hurley, 39, led Warner to a 25-6 record this season with help from his brother, assistant coach (and former Duke standout) Bobby Hurley. The Hurleys are from New Jersey, but it appears unlikely that Wagner could offer anything close to what URI or a more prominent school could offer. According to the Staten Island Advance, Hurley was scheduled to meet with URI representatives Wednesday.
The Rams also are said to have an interest in former Boston College coach Al Skinner, who already had one stint at URI (1988-97).
Skinner, who coached at BC from 1997-2010, also reportedly has interest in the South Carolina job, which opened with the firing of Darrin Horn. Skinner has a home in the Palmetto State.
Other rumored candidates for URI include Long Island University coach Jim Ferry, Rhode Island College coach Bob Walsh, Kansas assistant Joe Dooley and Drexel coach Bruiser Flint, who previously coached at UMass.
