Former Kent State coach Doug Martin was named offensive coordinator at Boston College, the school announced Thursday.

Martin, who was a reserve quarterback at Kentucky from 1981-84, was offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach at New Mexico State last season. Previously, he spent seven seasons at Kent State, the first as offensive coordinator and the next six as head coach. Prior to that, he was an assistant at East Carolina for 11 years.

“I’m really excited to join the football staff at such a prestigious academic institution,” Martin said in a statement. “I look forward to working with coach Spaziani and the fine student-athletes at Boston College. It is an honor to have this opportunity.”

Said BC coach Frank Spaziani in a statement: “Doug Martin is an excellent addition to our staff. He brings a wealth of experience, not only as an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach but as a head coach as well. Doug’s record of success, particularly in mentoring young quarterbacks, is impressive.”
