New Boston College basketball coach Steve Donahue is prepared to make his first statement that he can recruit at the next level with expected letters of intent from three Southern California players: 6-foot-11, 265-pound center Kyle Caudill (Brea Olinda), 6-3 guard Lonnie Jackson (Valencia) and 6-8 forward Ryan Anderson (Long Beach Poly). The first day of the early signing period is Wednesday.

The three players were teammates on travel teams and will use their friendship to help during the acclimation to the East Coast.

“I’m pretty excited,” Jackson told The Los Angeles Times. “It’s going to be a great time. Just from the weekend I spent with Ryan, we were having a blast together. It’s cool to have friends you can go through the experience with.”

The LA Times story refers to the players as “three of the best basketball players in Southern California,” and notes that Caudill averaged 17 points and 12 rebounds last season, Jackson averaged 23.6 points and Anderson averaged nearly 13 points and 8.6 rebounds and “is considered the top player on the likely preseason No. 1 team in the state.”

Caudill originally had planned to attend Arizona State but decommitted last summer and announced plans to attend BC in August, according to an ESPN profile. He’s a big body and is said to have solid fundamentals and good use of both hands around the basket.

Jackson’s reputation is as a thin, sharpshooting guard. He made a verbal commitment to the Eagles in September.

The scouting report on Anderson, who also gave a verbal in September, is that he has a nice shooting touch and is a great passer for a power forward.
