Boston College has parted ways with basketball coach Al Skinner. Over 13 seasons on Chestnut Hill, Skinner accumulated the most wins of any men’s basketball coach in school history, compiling a 247-165 record that resulted in seven berths in the NCAA tournament. That said, the Eagles had a 15-16 record in 2009-10, the team’s second losing season in the last three years.

Yes, BC was right to fire Skinner. The guy is lazy, came late to practices, was disorganized in his recruiting efforts (to wit, no recruitis in the fall of 2009). Al Skinner should have been gone at the end of last year..! I just hope BC doesn’t nickel/dime their way to replacing him, and get the “cheapest” solution they can find. Get a big name coach, and step it up to making BC a big time basketball program..!

Hey Bob,
Just curious, do you have sources about Skinner being lazy and late to practice? Just curious because I had never heard that before.

I don’t think it was time for Skinner to go. Boston College, to use a baseball term is Double AA when it comes to college sports. Can someone name the last time that BC was in the Sweet 16 before Skinner. Can someone name the last time they were in the Final Four. Boston College will NEVER be a big time basketball program, because this isn’t a college town. Most big time programs don’t have a long history of pro sports in their area. Another reason that won’t ever be a big time basketball school is the fact that academics matter at BC, its not like Kentucky or other schools where the students don’t ever go to class. Boston College wants to be great academically and then athletically. Places like Florida State, Miami don’t care about academics only about athletics.

Yes Scott…Do you remember Jim O’Brien?…That was the last time BC was a big time Basketball contender with numerous trips to the NCAA tourney and making an elite eight appearance in the 90′s. He is the coach who changed the program in the begining! I am not a BC fan at all but don’t you think it is what a school is suppose to do about academics? They are called student-athletes for a reason. Boston College needs a coach to help these kids excel academically and athletically. A good coach can help make anyone win…That’s what starts winning programs.

Once Coach Skinner expressed interest in St.Johns his ability to recruit and hold on to his BC players evaporated. Like him as a coach but he is the one who has chosen to leave.

Asian and extra visits to schools, 22 graduates are expected to work drunk. Transient profession and the establishment of injuries while 30, or a fly after the primary few years.

Have you ever considered about including a little bit more than just your articles? I mean, what you say is fundamental and all. But think of if you added some great pictures or video clips to give your posts more, “pop”! Your content is excellent but with images and videos, this blog could definitely be one of the greatest in its niche. Wonderful blog!
