Boston College football coach Frank Spaziani this week announced his four team captains. Defensive back Donnie Fletcher, linebacker Luke Kuechly, wide receiver Ifeanyi Momah and offensive guard Nathan Richman were selected to be the leaders of the 2011 Eagles by their peers.
Kuechly is a junior while the other three are entering their senior seasons.
Fletcher played in all 40 games he has been active for in the last three years and started all 13 games last season, tallying 53 tackles. His five interceptions led the Eagles and ranked 11th nationally. Fletcher has recorded 143 career tackles and nine career interceptions.
The 6-foot-3, 237-pound Kuechly recorded more tackles per game than any other collegiate player. A consensus All-America first-team choice last fall, Kuechly led all collegiate players in tackles (183) and solo tackles (110) in 2010. For his career, he has 341 tackles and four interceptions.
Momah compiled 19 receptions for 296 yards and three touchdowns in 2010. He also made appearances on the defensive side of the ball last season. In his three seasons, Momah has caught 31 passes for 458 career yards and six touchdowns.
Richman, a product of North Easton and Thayer Academy, appeared in 11 games in 2010. The 6-foot-6, 298-pound offensive guard has seen significant action on the team’s offensive line during each of the last three seasons.
The Eagles will kick off the 2011 season on Sept. 3 against Northwestern in Chestnut Hill. Kickoff is set for noon and the game will be broadcast nationally on ESPNU.
